CBEC-Chairman's Message to officers and staff

Posted on    09 November 2011

My dear brothers and sisters in the department,

At the outset, let me express my greetings and best wishes to each one of you and to your family for success in all walks of life.  I feel it a privilege to be chosen to lead the family and I am conscious of the great responsibility entrusted to me.

The challenges that lie before indirect tax administration and the work that is required to be done in this department  are  so  enormous that  it requires the united efforts of  all members of the department of all ranks and at all places. There is no magic wand to achieve this.  Each one of us has something unique, distinct in our personality that would add grandeur to the functioning of the department. We need to struggle unitedly and in a harmonious manner  each one doing our bit.  Let each of us think what I can do for the department rather than always looking at what is there in it for me.

The Hon’ble Finance Minister has in his interactions with officers  and  staff mentioned the importance of core functions such as revenue collection, reduction of litigation, enhancing voluntary compliance, employee welfare,  time-bound promotions and keeping staff morale high. His passionate addresses are a beacon and source of inspiration for us to strive hard to do our best in achieving the goals set for the department.

The Board is committed to take care of the officers, staff and their family through a number of welfare measures apart from working for timely promotions and grant of monetary and other entitlements. We will  spare no efforts  to  ensure  that the reasonable aspirations of the officers and staff are fulfilled and their family takes pride in the service to the society and the country.

Cadre Restructuring  and Reorganization proposal  of the department  envisages creation of compact Field Units, viz. Directorates, Zones, Commissionerates, Divisions, Ranges etc., so as to further  enhance efficiency of tax administration. The proposal is at an advanced stage of consideration by the Government and it is expected to result in increase of  28,360 posts  at various levels. Let us resolve to take pride in doing our allotted tasks in the department and provide the best possible  services to the tax-payers.  The department’s actions should always show the spirit of fairness and purpose of achieving the ideals of the organisation.

I would be happy to receive your valuable suggestions, constructive criticism on various areas of performance that would help the department to  grow.  These may be sent by E-mail at chmncbec@nic.in. I assure that your suggestions would be examined and I would respond to you as soon as possible.  Let our team work be the mantra for success in fulfilment of our goals.
